Hello CMHA and CMHAY members.

Hope you are all enjoying this cold weather more than I am. Let's just say I can not wait for summer! We are now reaching to the end of February and before we know it, show season will be right around the corner.

I would like to start off by congratulate all our National winners and youth contest winners! Good job guys. Do not forget to check the CMHA website for information  on the 2010 contest and challenges. The 2010 CMHAY Challenge information has been posted on the website and I want to see ALL the youth participate this summer. It's a lot of fun, and hey, you get to win really cool prizes. Also, do not forget to vote on the CMHAY logo contest. Information on the voting process is also available online.

I heard lot's of great things about the 2009 show season from fellow youth members, and I know 2010 will  be even better. It would be great to have some more write ups, pictures, drawings, etc. that we could include on our youth page on our website. You never know, it might also be featured in the CMHA magazine!

I would also like to send a congratulation to the many youth that stepped out of Canada and went on to compete at rated USA shows. Some whom even went further and successfully competed at the Grand Nationals and World Championship Horse Show in Oklahoma City. What a great way to promote our youth club! And to anyone else going in that direction this year, go out there and make us proud.

If you guys have any questions about any of the contest or would simply like to write to either Lisa or I, our emails can be found on the CMHA website. Do not hesitate, we love hearing from you!

I can not wait for show season and I wish everyone good luck and have fun!

Yours Truly,

Alexander Pinet

Youth Chair Message – Spring 2010

Spring is in the air and a new season of Morgan fun is beginning! I have lots of exciting news to share this issue! I shall start with some of our 2009 Award winners. First I would like to congratulate all the 2009 CMHA Youth year end high point winners. Good luck in the 2010 show season. The $250.00 CMHAY Scholarship Award winner was Alexander Pinet of New Brunswick, our current CMHA Youth president. Alex is busy encouraging our Atlantic youth to continue their participation in the CMHAY, and I thank him very much for his continued efforts. Our CMHAY Sportsmanship Award was won by Emilie Woytowich of Ontario. Emilie is a bright young fresh face to the Morgan world, and I am so glad for her win. Thanks to Amanda Gilbank for nominating Emilie. Our overall Outstanding Youth Award System (OYAS) winner for 2009 was Ashley Reeson, also of Ontario. Ashley works hard promoting the Morgan and youth, and is very appreciated by her fellow Morgan enthusiasts. Emilie Woytowich was a close 2 nd, and Justin Marion, also of Ontario was 3 rd. Start collecting your points for the 2010 OYAS contest now, the earlier the better!

Ashley was also busy this past year completing her Horsemastership level 4. She is the first to do so in Ontario. Justin Marion completed his level 2 of the Horsemastership program and is working towards level 3. Congratulations Ashley & Justin! I encourage all youth to participate in the Horsemastership program as it is a great way to learn not only about Morgans but basic stable management skills which are vital to all horse lovers. Levels 1-3 are currently available online (CMHA website) and level 4 will be online shortly.

Unfortunately, there will be no CMHA convention in 2010, but I will be accepting any entries that would normally be judged at the convention. This includes scrapbooks, photos, creative writing, creative art, banners and audio/visual entries. There is a division for 13& under and 14-17. Please mail/email your entries to the CMHA office by April 5 th, 2010.

I have received 4 entries for the CMHAY logo contest. The entries will be made available online, anonymously for judging/voting by the youth members. Voting will endJuly 31, 2010. This logo will be used on all official CMHAY documents and awards! Thank you to those who submitted logos.

The 2010 Youth Challenge will be running once again. This is such a great way for the youth to participate and have a great time. The topic for the speech this year will be “Choose a breed of horse/pony (besides the Morgan) and research and present their origin, characteristics, main uses today & any other interesting facts.” The speech is to be about 3 minutes in length and props are welcome. We have new coolers for the overall Youth Challenge winners! So far Ontario and Atlantic will be hosting. If your zone would like to host, please contact the CMHA office. Information is available on the CMHA website.

If you have not renewed your youth membership with the CMHA please do so now! It is only $25 for the year and you can participate in any contests or programs that the CMHAY has to offer. It’s a great deal!!!

My next goal to look forward to with the CMHA youth is a fundraising project. If you have any ideas please forward them to me! Once again any questions, comments and suggestions are welcome! Happy Trails, Lisa
