Youth Chair Message – Fall 2011

It has certainly been a busy summer for myself between work, horses and soccer! And it has also been a busy summer for the Ontario and Atlantic youth as well. Their respective zone Youth Challenges and CMHA medal classes were held at the Ontario Morgan Horse Championship Classic, July 9 th & 10th and the New Brunswick Morgan Horse Show a week later on July 16 th & 17th.

At the OMHC Classic, held in Ancaster, Ontario this year, we had 7 youth participate. With the kids placing all over the place through out the 3 portions, it made for interesting overall standings! This year 16 year old Lauren McGinty took the top honors. Congratulations! Four medal classes were offered, Showmanship, Saddle Seat Equitation, Hunt Seat Equitation & Western Seat Equitation. All but the western filled with 5 participants, which is awesome! This means that the medals will be awarded to our winners. Congratulations to Emily Miller & Justin Marion. Overall it was a great weekend at the Classic with a wonderful representation from the Just-In-Tario youth club. Thank-you to Val Reeson for running a smooth ON youth challenge.

Unfortunately in NB only 2 youth participated in the youth challenge. Thank-you to Rebecca MacKeigan and Olivia Dennis for taking part. Rebecca was our Atlantic zone Champion for a 2 nd year in a row! Like the Classic, the same 4 medal classes were offered, but no youth decided to enter. Thank-you to Jennifer Scobie-Hatto for running the youth challenge, your effort is much appreciated.

In AB our medal class winners include: Showmanship & Saddle Seat Equitation- Robyn Davies, Western Seat Equitation - Catriona Kozijn, Hunt Seat Equitation - Caitlyn Malyk. Unfortunatley due to low numbers at their AB, the Youth Challnege didnt run. Please stay tuned for infor regarding the AB Youth Challenge.

As many of the kids have seen, new youth challenge & medal class ribbons made their debut this year. I hope the youth like them! I certainly did!

I have some exciting news from SK, I have been in contact with Susan Van Dusen and she is hoping that the SK zone will be able to host a 2012 Youth Challenge! This will be wonderful for the CMHAY! I know Susan has been working very hard to have a barn full of active youth and we are very excited about the possibility of them being able to participate in their own Youth Challenge next year!

Just a reminder to all youth to keep working on their horsemastership levels and outstanding youth award system (OYAS) booklets! Nominations for the Sportsmanship and Scholarship Awards are due by January 15 th, 2012.

Enjoy the rest of the fall!

CMHAY Chairperson
